Ezekiel 47 – 48 (additional information)

In chapters 47:13 to 48:1-35, the land is to be divided in a very different way from the original historical allocation to the tribes of Israel during their conquest of Canaan under Joshua (see Joshua chs.13 to 21). The new allocation in Ezekiel was never implemented and is almost certainly purely symbolic. It seems to relate prophetically to Revelation 21 and the ‘New Jerusalem’, set in the era after the Final Return of Christ. The so-called Prince’s territory, around the Holy City, is Messianic and symbolically alludes to Christ in the centre of his people, who are now from all the nations and not merely the Jews. Ezekiel 47:21-23 appears to prove this. With this final vision, the great prophecy of Ezekiel now ends!
